چکیده

If such an analysis or synthesis question shall be answered automatically, both adequate algorithmic models along with the problem solving expertise of a human problem solver must be operationalized on a computer. Often, the construction of an adequate model turns out to be the key challenge when tackling the engineering task. Model construction—also known as model creation, model formation, model finding, or model building—is an artistic discipline that highly depends on the reasoning job in question. Model construction can be supported by means of a computer, and in this chapter we present a comprehensive view on model construction, characterize both existing and new paradigms, and give examples for the state of the art of the realization technology. Our contributions are as follows:

Integrating Knowledge Engineering with Knowledge Discovery in Database: TOM4D and TOM4L

A Knowledge Based System (KBS) carries out a set of knowledge intensive tasks for the purpose of putting in practice problem-solving capabilities, comparable to those of a domain expert, from an input data flow produced by a process. In particular, a knowledge intensive task requires, by construction, a Knowledge Model in order to interpret the input data flow according to the task to be achiev...

Building Reusable Knowledge Models for the Communication Networks Domain

The construction of Knowledge Based Systems (KBS) in complex domains typically involves the reuse of domain ontologies; selection and adaptation of Problem Solving Methods (PSMs). The development of such components is proposed in the field of Knowledge Engineering to allow sharing and reuse of knowledge, avoiding efforts in the construction of KBSs from scratch. This paper presents an experienc...

The Impact of Dynamic Balanced Scorecard in Knowledge-Intensive Organizations’ Business Process Management: A New Approach Evidenced by Small and Medium-Size Enterprises in Latin America

Dynamic Balanced Scorecard (DBSC) is an effective business performance management control tool for dealing with business uncertainty, performance monitoring, evaluation and forecasting. DBSC has been proposed and utilized extensively over the years as an effective tool to manage and control the dynamics of business processes (BP) and their performance. However, there is little evidence of its a...

Characterizing Knowledge Intensive Tasks indicating Cognitive Requirements; Scenarios in Methods for Specific Tasks

Methods for specific tasks can among others be identified in conceptual modeling of information systems and requirements engineering in software development. Such methods dictate a specific way of working by describing necessary knowledge intensive tasks to fulfill while applying the method. An actor may experience difficulties when trying to fulfill tasks as part of a method application, relat...

Engineering Knowledge-Intensive Tasks in Public Organisations

Public organisations often face knowledge problems due to the continual and pervasive movement of staff between units and department. The Pellucid project is developing a knowledge management system to assist in such situations. This paper describes the knowledge engineering and the knowledge level modelling undertaken in Pellucid. We use CommonKADS task templates as a mechanism to identify and...
